Slovenian international Kampl rejoins Bayer Leverkusen

Xinhua, August 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bayer Leverkusen signed Kevin Kampl from league rivals Borussia Dortmund, the "Werkself" confirmed in an official statement on Friday.

The Slovenian international, who just joined Dortmund in January 2015, moved to league rivals Leverkusen after putting pen to paper on a deal until June 2020. Kampl played already from 1997 until 2011 for Leverkusen's youth teams.

"I'm looking forward to my comeback for Leverkusen, where I made first steps as a young player. It is great to play for Leverkusen's professional team in the Bundesliga and Champions League," the 24-year-old new arrival said.

The midfielder is said to replace Heung Min Son, who joined Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur only recently. Kampl made only 14 appearances for Dortmund since his arrival in January.

"We would have gladly signed Kevin last winter. However, the more I am delighted that it worked out a half-year later. He is a great player with whom we will have a lot of fun," Leverkusen's coach Roger Schmidt, who coached Kampl already at Austrian side RB Salzburg, told the club's official homepage.

After two straight victories into the Bundesliga season 2015-2016 Bayer Leverkusen encounter German giants Bayern Munich at the third round on Saturday. Endi
