Nepalese army claims deployment in riot-hit district to strengthen civil authority

Nepal Army (NA) has made it clear that the army mobilization in far western Nepal following the violent clash is for maintaining peace, security, social harmony and national integrity, stressing the mobilization is to strengthen the "civil authority."

Issuing a press statement on Friday, the Nepal Army said that its deployment in the riot-hit Kailali district is as per the Local Governance Act.

"The army has been deployed following the request of the local administration as per Local Administration Act, 2028," the statement said.

Following the violent clash between police and irate protesters in Tikapur of Kailali on Monday which killed seven police personnel and a toddler, the local administration had deployed the army personnel to keep the situation under control. Endi
