Man arrested over Gothenburg city hall bomb threat

Xinhua, August 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

A 25-year-old man was arrested on Thursday on the suspicion of threatening to blow up the town hall of Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city.

Following a bomb threat on Wednesday, the suspect filed a report at a local police station claiming his bag had been stolen. It turned out that the missing bag was identical to the one that had been placed in the reception of the city hall that morning and that allegedly contained a bomb.

The man left the police station after filing his report but was later taken in for questioning and arrested on suspicion of unlawful threats.

According to the police, the bag that was left in the city hall contained clothes and a dumbbell. According to local newspaper Goteborgsposten it also contained documents with details of the man's identity.

The report added the man also threatened to bomb a high-speed train last year. At the time, he was arrested and detained for raising a false alarm.

Regional police did not want to comment on Thursday's arrest. Endit
