Asian members of ISAF (International Sailing Federation) will have a "greenway" to the Rio Olympics in the 2015 Sailing World Cup here, announced the organizing committee on Thursday.
The Asian members of ISAF, which don't have the 2016 Rio Olympic tickets in four sailing events, men's Finn, men's and women's 470 and Novartis kara 17, until now, can send one yacht to compete in each of the four events in the 2015 Sailing World Cup in Qingdao, according the committee.
"If the yacht gets the first place among Asian teams, the country or federation the yacht comes from will have one berth of the Rio Olympics." said Liu Yu, an official of the committee.
The 2015 Sailing World Cup, to be held on Sept. 14-20, will stage 10 sailing events, the same as the Rio Olympics, Liu said.
Each sailing event will have 40 yachts to compete for points for the Rio Olympics, Liu said.
The deadline of the registration for the World Cup in Qingdao is Sept. 11, and 294 sailors from 27 countries and regions have been confirmed, Liu said.
The 2015 Sailing World Cup has held events in Miami, Hyeres and Weymouth & Portland, and the final events will be held in Abu Dhabi in October. Endi
