Bayern's Alcantara pens contract extension

Xinhua, August 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thiago Alcantara extended his contract ahead of schedule for two years, Bayern Munich confirmed via the club's official homepage on Thursday.

"We are happy that Thiago decided to stay at Bayern on the long term. He is young and an important player for the club's future," Bayern Munich's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.

The 24-year-old Spain international joined the German giants in the summer 2013 from Barcelona with a deal until 2017. Due to a serious knee injury, which sidelined him for almost one year, Alcantara made only 41 appearances and three goals.

The two-year contract extension keeps the midfielder until June 2019 with the "Bavarians". After two straight wins into the season Bayern face Leverkusen at the third round in Bundesliga on Saturday. Endit
