Sydney's west braces for flood after dams spill over

Xinhua, August 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Residents to the west of Sydney are moving livestock to higher ground and bracing for flood as dams spill over following torrential downpours on Australia's eastern seaboard over the past days.

More than 400 millimetres of rain has fallen in parts of the NSW, forcing the evacuation of more than 320 properties, since storms began battering the state on Monday.

Local emergency services have attended to more than 1,700 calls for assistance and 90 flood rescues, a State Emergency Service spokeswoman told local media on Thursday.

It is only the second time Warragamba Dam, Sydney's main water reservoir, has spilled in 14 years, which is likely to continue for a number days. Endi
