Taliban overrun district in S. Afghanistan

Taliban militants after several days of fierce fighting overrun Musa Kala district in southern Halmand province with Lashkar Gah as its capital 555 km south of Kabul on Wednesday, a local official confirmed.

"Musa Kala district collapsed today," Mohammad Sharif, governor of Musa Kala district told Xinhua.

However, he didn't give more details.

Taliban militants began attacking Musa Kala district a couple of weeks ago.

Elders and notables of the district in a gathering a couple of days ago warned central government to take necessary steps for eviction of Taliban militants; otherwise, the district would collapse. Endi
