2 policemen killed in Egypt's Sinai

Xinhua, August 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two policemen were killed by unidentified gunmen in Egypt's restive North Sinai on Wednesday, the official news agency MENA reported.

A security source told MENA that the attack happened when the two policemen were on their way to work at the Utilities Police Department in Arish, the capital of the North Sinai province.

Security forces have been sent to the area in search for the attackers, MENA said.

Egypt has witnessed anti-government attacks that have left hundreds of police and army personnel dead or injured since the military ousted former Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in July 2013 in response to protests against his rule.

Earlier on Monday, a bomb exploded on a bus carrying policemen in the Beheira province, north of Cairo, killing two and wounding 24 others.

Last week, 29 people, including six policemen, were injured when a car bomb hit the building of the national security in Qalioubiya province near Cairo. Endit
