1st LD Writethru: 2 NATO soldiers killed in alleged insider attack in Afghanistan

Two NATO soldiers were killed on Wednesday morning after two gunmen in Afghan military uniform opened fire in southern province of Helmand, the NATO-led Resolute Support (RS) mission said in a statement.

"Two Resolute Support servicemembers died early this morning when two individuals wearing Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF)uniforms opened fire on their vehicle at an ANDSF compound in Helmand province," the alliance said in the statement.

The shooters were also killed as a result of exchange of fire, according to the statement.

The statement did not disclose further information about the incident, only saying "Afghan and Resolute Support officials are reviewing the incident and further information will be released as available and appropriate."

Such incident also happened in the past.

In late January this year, three U.S. contracted civilians of the RS had been killed after an Afghan soldier opened fire at a military airport in Afghan capital.

However, the statement did not reveal the nationalities of the victims under the RS policy. Endi
