Estonia says to fence border with Russia

Xinhua, August 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Estonia's Police and Border Guard Board (PPA) intended to build a 2.5-meter-high fence on around 100 km of its border with Russia, the Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) reported on Tuesday.

The project would cost 71 million euros (81.18 million U.S. dollars) and construction is planned to begin in 2018, the ERR reported, quoting Postimees, or the Postmen, the nation's top daily newspaper.

The fence, however, according to the report, would not cover the entire border between the two nations as the Narva River and Lake Peipus are also on the border, and no fence will be constructed on marshlands, which will only have border posts.

The plan is to build a fence among two thirds of the land border between the two countries, with a strip of sand next to the fence, the report said, but giving no more details. Endit
