3 soldiers killed as militants storm check post in NW Pakistan

Xinhua, August 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least three soldiers were killed when some unknown militants attacked a security check post in Pakistan's northwest tribal area of South Waziristan on Tuesday, local media reported.

Dawn TV said that the militants opened fire at the check post, killing the tree soldiers in Ladha area of South Waziristan, a semi-autonomous tribal area along Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Once a strong hold of militants, Ladha was regained by the military in 2009, but militants hiding there often carry out sporadic attacks on security forces.

Meanwhile, in Shawal area of the neighboring North Waziristan area, army gunship helicopters attacked and destroyed a terrorist training camp and ammunition depot, an army statement said.

The Inter-Services Public Relations, the mouthpiece of Pakistani army said in the statement that a number of suspected terrorists were also killed in the air strikes. Endi
