India offers condolences, support to Nepal after clashes

Nepali Prime Minister Sushil Koirala Tuesday had a phone talk with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and in the talk Modi extended his condolences over the loss of lives in deadly clashes in Nepal Monday, an official said.

Dinesh Bhattarai, Prime Minister Koirala's foreign relations advisor, told Xinhua that the India prime minister also promised to do all India can for Nepal's security after the deadly clash.

Koirala briefed Modi over the violence in Kailali district in western part of the country, the prime minister's office said.

The death toll in the violent clash that erupted over the proposed federalism in the far western Nepal has reached 20, according to local media.

At least 17 police personnel and three protesters were killed in the clash that took place in Tikapur of Kailali district on Monday afternoon. Endi
