Mexican driver Sergio 'Checo' Perez (Force India) on Sunday ended fifth in the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix, which is his best result in the current season, local media reported.
The Belgian Grand Prix was held Sunday morning in the historic circuit SPA-Francochamps, in Stavelot, Belgium.
Perez had a very good beginning and climbed up to the second position behind the winner, British Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). But then, his team made an early call to pits to try to avoid the attack of Austrian Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull Racing), who then was third.
The early call was not a good strategy and in the second half of the race, Perez's team changed tires so that he could achieve 22 laps without stopping once more. Therefore 'Checo' had to control speed and could not attack the leading positions, though he successfully defended from Felipe Massa (Williams).
"I am happy, I did what I could. I gave all until the end. I lacked rhythm...At the end I had to hold much, the last 25 laps I had much pressure behind. Practically I had much pressure during the whole race. But I am happy with this important result," said Perez.
"It was a good race. We have a lot to learn...Now we have to fight for good points in Monza," he added.
The next Grand Prix will be held in Italy, in Monza historic circuit, where Perez climbed the podium in 2012 with Sauber team. Endi
