Borussia Dortmund scored four second-half goals to overcome newcomer Ingolstadt in a one-sided affair and Mainz edged Monchengladbach 2-1 to close the second round of the German Bundesliga on Sunday.
Wasteful Dortmund overpowered resilient Ingolstadt, who were unable to hold the pace with the "BVB" in the second half. Thus, Thomas Tuchel's men wrapped up their second win in as many games to climb a top of the Bundesliga standings.
The "BVB" controlled the proceedings for most of the time but lacked in accuracy during the first half. Neither Marco Reus nor Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were able to break the deadlock from promising positions.
After the restart, Ingolstadt nearly flabbergasted Dortmund but goalkeeper Roman Buerki was on guard to deny the hosts the opener. However, just as Ingolstadt gained a foothold into the game Dortmund broke the deadlock through Matthias Ginter 10 minutes into the second half.
Dortmund gained momentum and doubled the lead thanks to Ingolstadt's Moritz Hartmann, whose foul play to Marcel Schmelzer inside the box allowed Reus to convert the awarded penalty with 60 minutes into the match.
The two-goal lead by the visitors took the wind out of Ingolstadt's sails as Shinji Kagawa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang got their names also on the scorecards to make it 4-0.
With the result, Dortmund ousted Bayern from the top position in the Bundesliga table. Meanwhile, newcomers Ingolstadt suffered their first loss of the season.
Elsewhere, Mainz upset Monchengladbach 2-1 to inflict the "Foals" the second straight loss. The "Nullfuenfer" opened the scoring through Jairo at the 41st minute before Patrick Herrmann restored parity after the restart.
Monchengladbach worked out the better chances but it were the visitors who put the game beyond doubt thanks to Christian Clemens' 2-1 winner at the 79th minute. Hence, Mainz seal their first win of the season whereas the "Foals" still wait for points after two encounters. Endit
