Brazilian Manocchio wins Ironman Copenhagen title

Guilherme Valenza Manocchio of Brazil came out the winner at the Ironman triathlon race held here on Sunday.

Manocchio finished in 8 hours 14 minutes and 56 seconds, in the men's competition of Ironman Copenhagen, which consists of a 3.8-kilometer swimming, a 180-kilometer bike riding and a 42.2-kilometer marathon run.

The course passes many historic landmarks in Denmark's capital city of Copenhagen, such as the world-famous Opera House, the Little Mermaid statue and the Amalienborg Palace.

Denmark's Henrik Hyldelund finished second with a time of 8 hours 21 minutes and 51 seconds, and Andreas Niedrig of Germany came in third in 8:27:37.

In the women's race, Michelle Vesterby of Denmark was the first to cross the finish line, clocking 8:59:49. The athlete from Belgium Sofie Goos won the second place with a time of 9:03:07 and German Sonja Tajsich ended third in 9:08:43.

Ironman Copenhagen offers 50 qualifying slots for the 2015 Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

Some 3,000 athletes from 55 countries participated in this year's event, attracting about 200,000 spectators. Endi
