DAMASCUS -- The Islamic State (IS) militants blew up an ancient temple in Syria's millennia-old oasis city of Palmyra, a monitor group reported Sunday. Temple of Baal Shamin, or "Lord of the Heavens," was blown up by the IS militants, who rigged it with large quantities of explosives before sending it up in flames, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported. LONDON -- The death toll in an air crash on Saturday in West Sussex, southeastern Britain was "highly likely" to rise to 11, local police said Sunday.
A Hawker Hunter jet crashed into a main road at about 1:20 p.m. Saturday while performing during the Shoreham Airshow. Sussex Police said the aircraft failed to pull out of a dive. (Britain-Plane-Crash)

ISLAMABAD -- The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan on Sunday evening told Xinhua that a Chinese tourist who was kidnapped in Pakistan a year ago has been rescued.
With the combined efforts of China and Pakistan, Hong Xudong, the abducted Chinese tourist, has been rescued recently by the Pakistani side, the embassy said in a statement, adding that China is grateful to the great efforts the Pakistani side has made for Hong's rescue. (China-Pakistan-Hostage)

SYDNEY -- Tony Abbott will on Monday become Australia's first Prime Minister to visit the grave site of prominent land rights campaigner Eddie Koiki Mabo during his week- long tour of the Torres Strait Islands.
