A British hostage has been released following a UAE military intelligence operation against al-Qaida kidnappers in Yemen's southern port city of Aden, the government source said.

"The British engineer Robert Semple working for a Yemeni oil services firm who was kidnapped in Sanaa on Feb 3, 2014 by suspected al-Qaida gunmen has been freed in a UAE military operation in Aden, " the local government official based in Aden said on condition of anonymity.

The United Arab Emirates forces moved the freed British hostage by a military plane directly to the Emirati capital Abu Dhabi on Saturday night, according to the official. Endit
