More than 1 million young people are petitioning for joining the army to defend their country after Kim Jong Un, the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), ordered the country's frontline troops to enter a state of war Friday, the official news agency KCNA reported early Sunday morning.
"Enraged at the reckless shelling by the South Korean military warmongers, the service persons and civilians of the DPRK are now getting impatient to inflict shower of fire on the provokers," KCNA said in a report.
The number of young people asking to go to war "is increasing hourly," said KCNA in the brief report.
The state of war has not yet been lifted at the DPRK frontline combined units and South Korean military is fully armed to deal with any provocations from the north.
The DPRK and the Republic of Korea held high-level emergency contact that lasted from 6:30 p.m. (0930 GMT) Saturday to 4:15 a.m. Sunday at the truce village of Panmunjom inside the demilitarize zone. Both sides agreed to resume the high-level emergency contact at 3 p.m. Sunday to narrow down differences.
During the 10-hour marathon talks, both sides comprehensively discussed ways of resolving the recent situations and developing the inter-Korean relations, according to ROK Presidential spokesman Min Kyung-wook. Endit
