Roundup: Gov't forces recapture district, vice president nearing to overrun Taliban stronghold in N. Afghanistan

Afghan security forces in latest achievement against Taliban militants recaptured the control of Kohistanat district in the northern Saripul province on Saturday amid advancement to overrun Taliban stronghold in Qaisar and Ghormach districts of the neighboring Faryab province in northern region of Afghanistan, officials said. "Security forces with the support of local people recaptured the control of Kohistanat district following military operations on Saturday, forcing Taliban militants to flee,"acting governor of Saripul province Abdul Jabar Haqbeen told Xinhua.
Five militants have been killed and nine others injured during the operation which is still going on in parts of the mountainous district, the official added.
Three security personnel have sustained injuries during the operations, the action governor admitted.
Taliban militants who captured Kohistanat district couple of days ago haven't commented.
Moreover, the Afghan first vice president General Abdul Rashid Dostum who has been leading the war against Taliban militants in the neighboring Faryab province over the past three weeks is nearing to destroy the last bastion of militants in the province and declare the end of war here in Faryab.
In the latest victory against Taliban in Faryab province, four insurgents were killed and 11 others captured in Chahar Shanbeh area of Qaisar district on Friday.
General Dostum who is leading the war against militants in Faryab province has said that hundreds of Taliban militants have surrendered.
Meantime, the convoy of General Dostum, according to media reports, was attacked by Taliban militants on the way to Qaisar district on Friday but the General escaped unhurt. However, fire exchange between militants and Dostum supporters had left four attackers dead.
The Afghan vice president also expressed readiness to lead the war against Taliban militants in the northern Kunduz and Badakhshan provinces where the armed militants have consolidated their foothold over the past couple of months. Endi
