Indian External Affairs Minister Suchma Swaraj on Saturday warned Pakistan that the planned meeting of national security advisors of the two countries must be focused on terrorism or risked being cancelled.
"If Pakistan feels Indian positions are pre-conditions, then there will be no talks," said Swaraj.
India blamed Pakistan for insisting on holding meetings with separatist leaders of Indian-controlled Kashmir during the talks.
The minister quoted the Ufa statement and said the talks between the two National Security Advisors had to be only on terrorism.
"Keeping in mind the spirit of Ufa, don't make Hurriyat a third party to the talks, and don't expand the subject of talks beyond terrorism," the minister said.
"Come and talk on terror, you are welcome," she added in reference to a Kashmiri separatist party whose leaders Pakistan intended to invite to the talks.
Pakistan's National Security Advisor Sartaj Aziz is to meet his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval for talks on Aug. 23 and 24.
Swaraj said that the talks would be held only on the issue of terrorism and not Kashmir, as decided in Ufa, Russia.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz Sharif agreed last month to arrange a meeting of their national security advisors during their meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Ufa, Russia. Endi
