Xinhua, August 22, 2015 Adjust font size:

The National Meteorological Center (NMC) issued a blue warning for approaching Typhoon Goni on Saturday, the third-straight day of the alert.

Goni, the Korean word for Swan, was in waters 360 kilometers southeast of Taitung City, Taiwan, at 5 a.m., traveling at a speed of 45 meters per second at its center. It is moving northward at a speed of 10 km per hour and expected to arrive near the East China Sea on Sunday evening.

Winds of Beaufort 7 to 9 are expected in coastal areas of China's Fujian, Taiwan and Diaoyu Islands as well as the southern part of the East China Sea.

The NMC advised vessels working in or passing through the affected regions to shelter in ports.

By 6 p.m. on Friday, 10,490 fishing boats in Fujian and Taiwan had returned to port, according to Fujian Department of Ocean and Fisheries.

China's meteorological disaster alerts are categorized as blue, yellow, orange and red as the severity of disasters ascends. Endi
