British FTSE 100 falls 2.83 pct on Friday

FTSE 100 Index, the British benchmark stock market gauge, Friday slumped by 2.83 percent, or 180.24 points, to 6187.65 points.

Pharmaceutical Shire Plc's share price dropped by 5.28 percent, topped the losers of the blue chips.

Share prices of CRH, easyJet Carnival and Standard Chartered declined by 4.70 percent, 4.58 percent, 4.44 percent and 4.26 percent respectively.

Royal Mail led the top gainers of the blue chips with a share price increase of 1.27 percent, followed by Fresnillo (0.66 percent), Johnson Matthey (0.52 percent), Sage Group (0.29 percent) and GKN (0.28 percent).

Trading volume in FTSE 100 companies was around 12 percent higher than its 30-day average. And the index has lost 2.50 percent so far this year. Endit
