Tension rises as Macedonian police trying to stop migrant influx

Xinhua, August 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Macedonian police used tear gas on Friday to control the situation at the border with Greece where thousands of refugees are trying to enter the country illegally.

Tension rose Friday morning when the police set barbed wire on the border to stop entry of illegal migrants into Macedonian territory, just a day after Macedonian authorities declared "state of emergency" in border regions because of the rising refugee waves.

Greece has been the main route of transit for the migrants from the Middle East and North Africa and West Asia crisis regions heading towards Central and Western Europe.

Refugees threw stones at the police forces, protesting the intervention. Several people were injured, according to local reports. Endit
