Roundup: Roadside bomb kills 4 in N. Afghanistan, 6 alleged Taliban backers detained in south

Xinhua, August 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

A roadside bomb organized by Taliban militants claimed four lives including two police and injured two others in the northern Kunduz province on Thursday; while security forces in crackdown against insurgents have arrested six government employees on charge of cooperation with the armed insurgents in the eastern Logar province, Afghan officials said.

"A mine planted by militants on a road in Arbab Khalil village of Imam Sahib district, Kunduz province was detonated by remote control when a team of police patrol was passing the area killing four people including two police and two civilians on spot," governor of Imam Sahib district, Amanudin Qarishi told Xinhua.

Two more police constables sustained injuries in the blast, the official added.

However, the official without giving more details said that investigation has been initiated into the case to identify and bring to justice those behind the bloody incident.

Kunduz province, with Kunduz city as its capital 250 km north of the national capital Kabul city, has been the scene of increasing Taliban-led militancy over the past couple of years.

The armed insurgents have also been engaged in fierce fighting with security forces in Khanabad district of Kunduz province over the past couple of weeks which have left dozens of people dead.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan's top spy agency the National Directorate for Security (NDS) has arrested six school principals in the eastern Logar province over their alleged linked with the Taliban outfit, a local news agency, Pajhwok reported Thursday.

"The principals of the schools had a joint meeting with Taliban. The NDS officials have arrested them when they returned from the meeting," Pajhwok quoted deputy education director of Logar province as saying.

Nevertheless, the official added that the schools were located in areas under Taliban sway and they had meeting with militants to avoid any loss to schools, arguing that the principals could not be blamed for anything and NDS should release them without any delay.

Taliban militants have intensified activities in different provinces of the conflict-ridden Afghanistan since April 24 when the armed outfit launched its so-called spring offensive against government forces in the conflict-ridden country. Endi
