Britain's retail sales volume increased by 4.2 percent in July 2015 compared with that of a year earlier, recording the 28th consecutive year-on-year growth, the longest period of sustained growth since May 2008, according to official data.
On the month, the quantity bought in the retail industry increased by 0.1 percent compared with June 2015, data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed Thursday.
Increases were reported by department stores, other stores, household goods stores, and non-store retailing. Increases were offset predominantly by falls in food stores, textile, clothing and footwear stores, and petrol stations, said ONS.
Average store prices fell three percent year-on-year in July 2015, brought down by the 10.9 percent decrease of petrol stations. The drop in prices represented the 13th consecutive month of this trend, data showed.
The value of Internet sales saw no growth compared with June 2015, but jumped by 13 percent compared with July 2014, data also showed.
The value of sales made online accounted for 12.6 percent of all retail sales. Endit
