(Sports)ICC allows Pakistani cricketers Asif, Butt to play competitive matches

Xinhua, August 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

The International Cricket Council on Wednesday allowed Pakistan's banned cricketers, batsman Salman Butt and fast bowler Muhammad Asif, to participate in competitive matches after September 1, a statement said.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed that the sanctions against Asif and Butt will expire at midnight on Sept. 1, 2015 and they can play cricket after fulfilling the specific conditions laid down by the independent Anti-Corruption Tribunal.

The ICC also allowed Pakistan's banned fast bowler, Mohammad Amir, to return to cricket at international level at the same time following permission being granted to him to play at domestic level earlier this year.

The three Pakistani players were found guilty of various offenses of corrupt behavior during a Test match between England and Pakistan in August 2010 in London by the independent Anti- Corruption Tribunal on Feb. 5, 2011, the statement said. Endi
