Ukraine's honey exports up 24 pct in H1

Xinhua, August 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ukraine exported 13,400 tons of honey in the first half of 2015, up 24 percent from 10,800 tons over the same period last year, the country's Deputy Agriculture Minister Vladyslava Rutytska said here Tuesday.

"This figures indicate that Ukrainian honey products are competitive in world markets," Rutytska was quoted as saying by the Agriculture Ministry's press service.

In the first six months of 2015, the United States was the largest exports destination for Ukrainian honey, accounting for 41 percent of the total sales, Rutytska said.

She suggested that Ukraine has a potential to further boost supplies of honey abroad and explore new export markets by the end of the year, as the country's honey production is steady increasing.

"The annual honey output could reach 70,000 tons or more, which would make Ukraine a top European producer and the third largest producer in the world," Rutytska said.

Besides honey, Ukraine has a potential to increase exports of other bee products, such as propolis and floral pollen, she added.

Last year, Ukraine's honey output reached 66,500 tons, of which 36,300 tons were sold abroad. Endite
