Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Monday wrote to Indonesian President Joko Widodo to convey his condolences over the Trigana Air passenger plane which has crashed in Indonesia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

"I was saddened to hear of the tragic crash of Flight IL 267 carrying 54 people on board in Papua on August 16, 2015. On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Singapore, I extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the families who lost their loved ones in this accident," Lee said.

The ATR-42 turboprop plane, which was carrying 54 people including three babies and two children, was expected to land in Oksibil, 280 km south of Jayapura, according to Barata.

The Trigana Air has lost 10 aircraft in 14 incidents since it began operations in 1991.

The airline has been on an EU blacklist since 2007, which bans it from flying in the European airspace due to safety concerns. Endi
