The Singapore edition of the Color Run was granted by Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), as the two agencies were " satisfied that the colored powder can be used in a safe manner", SPF and SCDF said in a joint statement on Monday.
The approval means the upcoming event scheduled for this weekend (Aug. 22 and Aug. 23) will go ahead. The event organizers will be required to divide clear zones for powder dispersal, with personnel ensuring that the areas are free of fire sources, according to Channel NewsAsia.
The use of dispersal machines for the production of dust clouds was prohibited, while organizers were also required to provide prompt on-site medical assistance and have a Company Emergency Response Team on site during the event, said the police.
Questions on the safety of colored powder used in the upcoming event aroused, as a dust explosion at China's Taiwan water park in late June injured more than 500 people. SPF and SCDF then stated in July that they would access the safety of powder used in the coming event.
The organizers said earlier that the colored powder used in the Singapore edition of Color Run has been tested for flammability and is different from the one used in China's Taiwan.
The Color Run is an series of events and five km paint race that is inspired by the Hindu festival of Holi. Endi
