Palmeiras sink Flamengo in Brazil's Serie A

Xinhua, August 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Palmeiras scored three goals in 15 second-half minutes to defeat Flamengo 4-2 in Brazil's Serie A championship on Sunday.

Jackson opened the scoring for the hosts but Flamengo took the lead after Ederson scored twice in quick succession after the interval.

Samir then turned the ball into his own net for the visitors before Dudu and Alecsandro added two more for Palmeiras.

The result lifted the eight-time champions to fifth while Flamengo fell to 13th in the 20-team standings.

In Rio de Janeiro, Cicero and former Brazil striker Fred were on target as Fluminense also came from behind to beat Figueirense 2-1.

Clayton had given Figueirense the lead at the Maracana stadium, silencing the home fans by netting just before halftime.

But with two-time FIFA World Player of the Year winner Ronaldinho pulling the strings in midfield, Fluminense took control of the match in the second half.

Figueirense's hopes of victory all but evaporated three minutes from time when Joao Vitor was dismissed for a second booking after a bad foul. Endi
