The eighth General Assembly of Islamic Radios and Televisions Union (IRTVU) kicked off here in Tehran on Sunday.

Representatives from 35 countries have attended the conference, and among them former Iraqi prime minister Nour al-Maliki and the Syria's Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi are scheduled to make speeches.

On the sidelines of the conference, the sixth edition of the Islamic Film Market was inaugurated on Sunday, in which over 90 producers of "clean products" have participated.

Iranian state radio and TV channels and institutes including Farabi Cinema Foundation, the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults (IIDCYA) and the Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC) offer their latest products at the market.

The Star Media Institute from Kenya and al-Manar, a Lebanese satellite television station, are also among the foreign participants in the market.

During the conference which will continue until Tuesday, the Halal Media as a new brand for cinema and television products will be unveiled.

The brand will be granted to those production companies which aim to promote "clean product, clean media and clean generation," IRTVU Director Hojjatoleslam Ali Karimian was quoted as saying by Tehran Times daily.

Also, the latest technological and media equipments will be showcased alongside the conference.

The IRTVU was established by the Islamic Republic and has over 220 members. Endit
