Bratislava airport could see passenger numbers go up by 20 percent in 2015

Xinhua, August 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bratislava's M.R. Stefanik Airport (BTS) could handle 1.6 million passengers for the whole year of 2015, which would amount to a 20-percent increase year on year, announced BTS managing director Ivan Trhlik on Saturday.

The airport handled close to 840,000 travellers over the first seven months of this year, which is a 17-percent increase from the same period of 2014.

"The increase in passenger numbers is attributed primarily to Ryanair, which has opened its base at the airport. This resulted in more frequent flights as well as in the addition of new destinations, namely Athens and Madrid. Another low-cost carrier, flydubai, has launched a new service to Dubai, which is now operated three times a week," stressed Trhlik.

The Bratislava airport handled 1.36 million passengers in 2014, which was a drop of 1.3 percent from 2013. Endit
