Perseids meteor shower attracts thousands in Poland

The Perseid meteor shower, one of the brightest meteor showers, which reached its peak during Aug. 12-14, brought together thousands of admirers in Poland.

Almost a hundred "falling stars" within one hour could be observed on Wednesday night. The meteor shower was observed throughout the country, however, the large-scale observations were held in Warsaw's Copernicus Science Center, where crowds gathered to watch the amazing spectacle together.

In order to make the spectacle as visible as possible, Warsaw's bridge, subway, stadium illuminations were turned off. The phenomenon has been slightly affected by clouds and pollution in some Polish towns.

The Perseids, named after the Greek mythology word referring to the sons of a hero - Perseus, are a prolific meteor shower associated with the comet Swift-Tuttle. They are most visible from mid-July, annually reaching its peak in activity in the middle of August. Endit
