Ousted chairman of Myanmar's ruling Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) U Shwe Mann, who is also speaker of the parliament and the House of Representative, made first public appearance Friday by re- attending the session of the House of Representative.

In a message to the people, U Shwe Mann pledged to work together with the people for their interest and well-being up to the last minute, while expressing appreciation for the people who sent words of greeting to him with goodwill, love and sympathy in the aftermath of his removal from the chairmanship.

U Shwe Mann, who acted as the party chairman during President U Thein Sein's assumption of presidency since taking office, was removed on Thursday and replaced by U Htay Oo, the party's vice chairman, during a major reshuffle of the party leadership.

The party was reformed with a 53-member central executive committee (CEC), retaining U Thein Sein as the original chairman.

On Wednesday night, security measures of the party headquarters in Nay Pyi Taw was taken by the government's security forces, followed by an emergency meeting of the party CEC on Thursday, in which the reformation of party leadership was carried out.

With no change on his party membership, U Shwe Mann is expected to compete in the upcoming November general election for a seat of House of Representative in Phyu township constituency as originally set.

USDP has nominated a total of 1,147 candidates nationwide to run the Nov. 8 general election for which the Union Election Commission has designated a total of 1,179 constituencies across the country for the vote at four levels of parliament. Endi
