Corinthians move to top of Brazil's Serie A

Gremio scored either side of halftime to defeat Atletico Mineiro 2-0 in Brazil's Serie A championship on Thursday.

The result saw Corinthians leapfrog Atletico to occupy first place in the standings while Gremio are third, four points behind the leaders.

Douglas opened the scoring in the 41st minute before Luan doubled the visitors' lead 10 minutes after the restart at the Mineirao stadium.

Meanwhile, Joinville defeated defending champions Cruzeiro 3-0 with goals to Bruno Aguiar, Marcelinho Paraiba and Mariano Tripodi.

Joinville rose to 17th in the standings and Cruzeiro slipped to 14th, one match shy of the season's midway point.
