The first Syrian families with ill children will arrive in the Czech Republic in October, and the children are to be treated in local hospitals by the end of the year, Czech officials said on Thursday.
Representatives from the Czech Interior Ministry made the announcement on Thursday after meeting of the working group, which aims to ensure the smooth progress of the refugee's resettlement.
Besides, the first 50 of the 400 Syrian refugees from refugee camps in Jordan should arrive in the Czech Republic at the turn of the year 2015.
The government decided in January to accept 15 families of Syrian refugees with ill children. According to Deputy Interior Minister Jiri Novacek, 11 Syrian families has been listed so far, they must yet undergo a security screening.
He said if one did not pass a background investigation, they would select in other candidates. During the final mission in Jordan in September, Czech doctors will examine the children and interview their parents.
The children will be treated at Prague's Motol Teaching Hospital upon their arrival, and their families will be adapting to the new environment. They should gradually be integrated into the society as from next year.
The Czech government approved to accept a total of 1,500 refugees by the end of 2017. The Czech Republic should take over around 1,100 refugees from the EU countries with large migrant influx -- from Italy and Greece, and 400 from refugee camps in the Middle East.
Novacek said that they expected the first group of 10 families, which is 50 people, to arrive in the Czech Republic at the turn of the year, and then the others should arrive for each quarter. He said a transit center will be established in Jordan, where they will prepare refugees for resettlement. They should spend one to three months in the center. Endit
