France will ban the import of trophies of wildlife illegally hunted, visiting French Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy Segolene Royal said on Thursday in Botswana.
Her statement came at a signing ceremony in Gaborone for an agreement over cooperation in anti-poaching training between the nations.
"After I was appointed to this position, I forbade the export of ivory. I can announce today I will forbid imports of trophies of wildlife illegally hunted," she said.
According to the agreement, France will help Botswana train guards specialized in the fight against poaching, and improve the anti-poaching information system.
