About 3.6 kg of heroin found hidden in cabbages in Singapore

About 3.6 kilogram of heroin estimated to be worth more than 254,000 Singapore dollars (181,585 U.S. dollars) has been found hidden in cabbages in an operation and four men have been arrested, said Singapore's Central Narcotics Bureau(CNB) on Thursday in a statement.

"The drugs were packed and hidden using a method not encountered previously," said CNB. One suspected local drug trafficker and three suspected drug couriers were arrested.

Earlier on Thursday morning, CNB officers were deployed in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8, where a local suspected drug trafficker was believed to be awaiting a fresh consignment of drugs. At about 5.45 a.m., a white Malaysia-registered lorry was noticed arriving in the vicinity.

A short while later, CNB officers spotted the suspected drug trafficker, a 46-year-old male Singaporean, approach the left-side of the lorry and handed over a plastic bag to one of the passengers in the lorry. Then, the 46-year-old male was spotted receiving four plastic bags in return. Both parties went their separate ways thereafter.

CNB officers followed the suspected trafficker to a coffee shop nearby and arrested him. The four plastic bags were found to contain eight bundles of heroin hidden in eight cabbages.

The lorry was stopped at Woodlands Checkpoint and CNB officers arrested three Malaysian men, who are suspected to be drug couriers. Cash of 18,500 Singapore dollars (13,226 U.S. dollars) was found within a plastic bag placed behind the driver's seat.

CNB said the four men are under investigation. If convicted, they may face death penalty. Endi
