Spain's consumer prices rise 0.1 pct in July

Spain's consumer prices rose by 0.1 percent in July when compared with the same month a year earlier according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published on Thursday by Spain's statistical office (INE).

Prices of items related to housing fell by 0.1 percent in July on a year-on-year basis, with prices of gas and fuel for heating falling and those of electricity rising.

Prices of communications, leisure, and culture and transport fell by 0.6 percent, 0.2 percent and 3.5 percent respectively, while prices of food and non-alcoholic drinks rose by 1.4 percent.

The INE reported that on a month-to-month basis, prices fell by 0.9 percent with prices of clothing and shoes falling by 12.9 percent because of the summer sales period. Prices of transport fell by 0.5 percent and prices of food and non alcoholic drinks fell by 0.4 percent.

On the other hand, prices of leisure and culture rose by 1.9 percent, prices of hotels, cafes and restaurants rose by 0.6 percent and those of items related to housing rose by 0.3 percent.

Spain's ministry of economy said Spain's annual inflation rate was below the eurozone's average, a fact that would allow Spain increasing competitiveness having a positive impact on exports, production and employment. Endit
