First Chinese NGO registered in Nepal to assist in post-quake reconstruction

Xinhua, August 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

China has registered its first NGO in Nepal to channelize aid funds to assist in the reconstruction of the quake-ravaged Himalayan country.

The Chinese NGO, China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) , signed a general agreement to this effect with Social Welfare Council (SWC) on Thursday.

This non-profitable humanitarian organization has extended an assistance of 500,000 USD to Nepal for its reconstruction in the next five years.

"The registration of our office in Nepal signifies that we will be involved in post-disaster reconstruction and long-term development of Nepal," Wang Xingzui, vice president of China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, said after the signing ceremony.

The foundation has been working in Nepal immediately after the April 25 quake in research and rescue, food supply, drinking water, epidemic prevention, sanitation, temporary settlement, among others.

It had mobilized 300 volunteers from six countries during the relief programs.

"We expect that China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation will support to reduce poverty in Nepal," Rabindra Kumar, member secretary at Social Welfare Council said.

China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation is the 240th INGO registered in Nepal. Endi
