Armed man fires at Malian police, 1 killed

Xinhua, August 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

An armed man on Wednesday evening killed one Malian traffic police officer and injured two others in Bamako, eyewitnesses told Xinhua.

The attack happened early evening at the roundabout near "Sogoninko Station," the main bus stop in the Malian capital near the shores of River Niger.

Eyewitnesses interviewed by Xinhua said an armed man alighted from a taxi, headed towards a police post near the station's gate and opened fire on the police officers.

Two police officers were shot, with one of them sustaining serious injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital, security sources said.

A beggar who was near the roundabout was equally shot at.

Eyewitnesses said the attacker took advantage of the confusion that ensued to flee aboard a motorcycle driven by one his accomplices.

The zone was sealed off by security forces who immediately launched an investigation. Endit
