At least 39 Syrian military personnel were killed during raging battles with the Islamic State (IS) group at a besieged northern airbase, a monitor group reported Wednesday.
A total of 39 army men, including 31 officers, have so far been killed during intense battles that have been raging since Sunday at the Koerse airbase in the countryside of the northern province of Aleppo, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-IS battle)

ISLAMABAD -- At least seven security personnel including an officer were killed Wednesday in two separate incidents of terrorism in different areas of Pakistan, local media reported.
According to the reports, at least three security personnel were killed on Wednesday evening in a bomb blast near a vehicle of the security forces in the Sandana area of Tirah Valley in Khyber Agency, the country's northwestern tribal region bordering Afghanistan. (Pakistan-Terrorist attacks)

GAZA -- The armed wing of Islamic Hamas movement, al-Qassam Brigades, said Wednesday its militants had seized an Israeli reconnaissance drone that fell on Gaza on July 22.
The group said on its website that a special commando force of the brigades seized the Israeli drone (Sky Lark1), adding that "after seizing the drone, it was technically checked to make sure that the drone is not trapped with explosives." (Palestine-Israel-Drone)

LAGOS -- A civilian helicopter crashed in Oworonshoki area of Nigeria's southwestern state of Lagos on Wednesday, having killed four people, local authorities said.
