Yemen's exiled president hails UAE's role in Saudi-led coalition against Houthis

Xinhua, August 13, 2015 Adjust font size:

Yemen's exiled President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi on Wednesday lauded the United Arab Emirates' (UAE) supportive stance of his country against the Houthi group that seeks to seize power.

The Yemeni president made the remarks during his meeting with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.

The two sides discussed the latest developments in war-torn Yemen and the bilateral relations, UAE's news agency WAM reported.

Sheikh Mohmmed Bin Zayed stressed his country's support for Yemen and its people.

The UAE is working under the umbrella of a Saudi-led coalition against the Houhti group, he said.

The UAE is part of a Saudi-led coalition comprising nine Arab states supporting Yemen's "legitimate" government under President Hadi.

The campaign aims to stop Shiite Houthi rebels from seizing the power in the country, with Saudi Arabia claiming the rebels are backed by Iran.

Hadi fled Yemen on March 25, after the Shiite Houthi rebels advanced towards the Yemeni port city of Aden and across the war-torn country. Hadi's residence has been since then in the Saudi capital Riyadh. Endit
