China is encouraging employers to adopt a 2.5-day weekend scheme according to the latest memo issued by the General Office of the State Council.

The measure is expected to stimulate the tourism market in China by optimizing employees' holiday plans by creating more free time for them during the summer.

The memo also calls upon the tourism sector to rectify itself in a bid to protect consumers' interests.
