Honduran former player Lopez murdered in Guatemala

Honduran former player Walter "General" Lopez was murdered Sunday in La Mesilla, Guatemala, a place near the border with Mexico, Honduran media reported Monday.

According to local sports daily Diez, Walter Lopez had a brilliant career in Honduran teams such as Olimpia, Motagua and Marathon.

Lopez, 37, was murdered when he left a local stadium after he watched a game with his wife and children, who survived the attack with no injuries.

Local press reports said the former player was murdered by criminals.

"General" played in several teams from Honduras' National League, including Olimpia where he won three titles and two with Marathon. He also played in Motagua, Platense and Deportes Savio.

The Honduran player also played abroad in Austria' s BSV Bad Bleiberg and Salzburg. He played in Guatemala' s Penarol La Mesilla and Coban Imperial.

In Honduras national soccer team he participated in Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. He was also part of the big national team. Endi
