Chinese swimming star Sun Yang gave up his chance to defend his 1,500m freestyle title at the Kazan world championships as the 23-year-old withdrew from the final minutes before it started here on Sunday.
Sun wasn't introduced Sunday night along with the rest of the seven-man field.
Chinese swimming officials said the two-time 1,500m world champion had to miss the final due to heart discomfort.

Sun claimed the 400m and 800m freestyle gold medals in Kazan and took a silver in the 200m freestyle.
Paltrinieri won the 1,500m title in 14:39.67, a European record, while Connor Jaeger of the United States took silver in 14:41.20. Ryan Cochrane of Canada finished third in 14:51.08. Endi
