36 militants killed in Afghan army operations

Xinhua, August 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Some 36 militants have been killed in Afghan army operations within the last 24 hours, the country's Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

"A total of 36 terrorists were killed, 30 others injured and one terrorist was detained in Afghan National Army cleanup operations across Afghanistan since early Saturday," the ministry said in a statement.

About five army personnel were also killed during the period, the statement confirmed.

The Taliban-led violence continues in Afghanistan. Afghan security forces have pressed on clearing the militants in restive provinces as they assumed the full security charges from NATO-led troops since Jan. 1.

The Taliban responds by bombing and armed attacks.

On Friday, a total of 50 people, including a U.S. soldier of the NATO-led Resolute Support mission, were killed and hundreds wounded in a string of suicide attacks in Afghan capital of Kabul. Endi
