Zambia loses first game at Netball World Cup

Xinhua, August 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Zambia started the 2015 Netball World Cup tournament currently underway in Australia by going down to fellow African representative, Uganda, state media reported on Friday.

The Zambian queens lost 74-38 nets to Uganda in their opening game at Netball Central Court in Sydney in Pool D with Uganda being a better side which took advantage of lapses in Zambia's defense, according to state broadcaster, the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation.

By half time, Uganda were leading by 40-21 nets. The Ugandans took advantage of their height to silence the Zambian team as they proved that experience and key were key.

Zambian coach Charles Zulu said from Australia that his team must now win the remaining two games to stand a chance of progressing to the next round.

He has also promised to make changes to his team.

Zambia last competed at the Netball World Cup in 1999 in New Zealand. Africa is also being represented by South Africa and Malawi.

Zambia's next game will be on Sunday against Wales before playing Fiji on Monday. Endi
