Nigeria to open camp ahead of face-off with Tanzania in AFCON qualifier

Xinhua, August 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nigeria will open its camp in less than two weeks for players who will represent the country during a face-off with Tanzania in next month's African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier slated for Dar es Saalam, the Nigerian Football Federation said Friday.

In a statement made available to Xinhua, the Nigerian football governing body said the senior national team will be in camp from Aug. 17, at a highbrow hotel located in the nation's capital Abuja.

Team coach Sunday Oliseh has already invited 23 home-based professionals who will kick-start the preparations ahead of the Sept. 5 encounter, the Nigerian football authorities said, adding new and regular faces were included on the list released Thursday by the head coach.

The Nigerian team coach also named a handful of players of the U-23 squad including goalkeepers Olufemi Thomas and Ikechukwu Ezenwa, as well as a number of new faces, led by top scorer in the Nigerian Professional Football League race, Tunde Adeniji of the local Sunshine Stars FC, on his list of choice players.

The match against Tanzania will be Oliseh's first outing as coach of the Super Eagles since he took over as new coach of Nigeria's national soccer team on July 15, after signing a three-year deal with the football authorities in the country. The match might be a litmus test for Oliseh, according to local football analysts.

Nigeria is in Group G in the AFCON qualifiers alongside Egypt, Tanzania and Chad. Endi
