1st LD: 9 killed as helicopter crashes in north Pakistan

Xinhua, August 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least nine people were killed when a helicopter crashed near Pakistan's northern Abbottabad district Thursday evening, local media and officials said.

A senior police officer said the helicopter crashed after hitting a hill at the outskirts of Abbottabad, a district of northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The helicopter caught fire following the crash and the local people pulled out the nine bodies from it.

He did not mention to which department the helicopter belonged, however, some local media reports said that it belonged to the aviation unit of the Pakistani army that was taking relief goods from the garrison city of Rawalpindi to flood victims in Gilgit.

There are also reports that the helicopter belonged to the government.

Neither the army nor the government has confirmed that helicopter crash yet. Endi
